About Key Working
Our Key Workers are the main therapy and support providers who work collaboratively and in consultation with our wider allied health team to provide coordinated, family-centred and integrated support to young children with developmental delays, Autism or disabilities, and their families. Our Key Workers primarily support children aged 0-6 years.
Our Key Workers have completed formal study and/or have a background in the following areas of education or allied health:
- Speech Pathology
- Occupational Therapy
- Psychology
- Early Childhood Education
A Key Worker is able to provide the following types of support to your child and family:
Therapeutic support embedded into everyday life:
Through a transdisciplinary approach to service and support delivery, your Key Worker will:
- Identify and prioritise goals related to your child’s development, within your family’s daily routines.
- Draw upon the expertise and knowledge of the wider team to provide therapy and support within your child’s everyday environments.
- Provide services and support within your child’s natural environment (such as their home, childcare, kindergarten or school).
Collaborate frequently with people key to your child’s success:
- Develop strategies to support your child in collaboration with your family and other individuals integral to your child’s development, care and learning, such as their educators.
- Liaise with your child’s wider team of allied health, care and/or education teams, to ensure therapy, strategies and support are consistent, streamlined, coordinated and family-centred.
- Discuss and monitor your child’s progress and adjust the Family Service and Support Plan as necessary.
Family guidance and support:
- Provide guidance and support to your family, including information about the NDIS, access to community resources and services, advocacy and emotional support
How does it work?
Whilst every child and family’s therapeutic journey is unique, here’s how we deliver our key working services and supports:
STEP 1
Initial Interview:
Your family will engage in an interview to delve into your child and family’s goals, strengths, areas of needs, daily routines, and lifestyle. This comprehensive information forms the basis for creating the ‘Family Service and Support Plan’.
STEP 2
Family Service and Support Plan:
This plan is a dynamic document tailored to your family’s unique needs. It outlines goals, strategies, and interventions to support your child and family’s development. It’s periodically reviewed and evaluated to ensure it evolves with your child’s progress and changing needs. The plan guides therapy, support, and services provided by your Key Worker. They work closely with you, drawing on the expertise of the wider allied health team, to deliver effective interventions aligned with your family’s goals.
STEP 3
Key Worker Sessions and Support Services:
During Key Worker sessions and support services, your Key Worker implements strategies outlined in the Family Service and Support Plan. These sessions integrate evidence-based interventions and techniques drawn upon from our wider allied health team. The aim is to address your child’s needs effectively within their natural environment, whether it be at home, kindergarten, childcare, school, or within the community.
STEP 4
Regular Progress Monitoring:
Progress towards the goals outlined in the Family Service and Support Plan is regularly monitored and documented by the Key Worker. Adjustments to the plan are made as needed to ensure ongoing progress and address any emerging needs or challenges.
STEP 5
Family Involvement and Collaboration:
Your family is actively involved in the therapy process, with opportunities to provide feedback, ask questions, and participate in decision-making. The Key Worker maintains open communication with you to ensure alignment between therapy goals and family priorities.
