About Occupational Therapy
Our Occupational Therapists are here to help your child thrive in their everyday activities, whether it’s playing, learning, or taking care of themselves. We focus on what matters most to your family and child, helping them build skills to do the things that are important to them. We look at the big picture and identify any challenges your child might face in their natural environment, like at home or school. Our therapists work closely with caregivers and educators to make changes to the environment that support your child’s growth and success. Together, we ensure your child can fully participate and flourish in all aspects of life.
Our Occupational Therapists can support the development of your child’s functional skills in the following areas:
- Fine motor skills: To perform activities such as writing, drawing, buttoning clothes, using utensils, and manipulating small objects.
- Gross motor skills: To undertake activities such as, crawling, walking, balancing, jumping and climbing
- Sensory processing and regulation: Sensory processing involves the ability to receive, interpret, and respond appropriately to sensory information from the environment, facilitating a child's engagement in daily activities, regulation of emotions, and participation in social interactions and learning experiences.
- Self-care skills: To independently manage tasks related to eating, dressing, toileting, grooming, and maintaining personal hygiene
- Executive functioning skills: To complete tasks that require working memory, cognitive flexibility, planning & organisation
- Emotional regulation
- School readiness skills
In addition to supporting your child within one-to-one therapy, our Occupational Therapists also:
- Provide parent coaching to empower you to implement and reinforce the strategies targeted in therapy sessions within the home, as well as out in the community
- Collaborate and frequently liaise with your child’s educators, to support generalisation of skills and implementation of strategies across their educational and care settings.
