Therapy Assistant Program
About Therapy Assistants
Our Therapy Assistants are here to help your child practice and use the skills they learn during therapy sessions in places where they’ll make the biggest difference – like at home, in their care setting, or at school.
Our Therapy Assistants are all studying university-level degrees in fields like Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Music Therapy, and more. They work closely with our qualified therapists and get regular training and supervision to ensure they provide high quality service and support.
How can working with a Therapy Assistant benefit your child?
- Increased access to therapy services: If your child is on a waitlist to see a therapist, a therapy assistant can step in to offer support and service promptly.
- More support: Having a therapy assistant means your child can access therapeutic services and support more often, which can speed up progress toward their goals.
- Generalisation of skills: With a therapy assistant, your child can practise their skills in new places and situations, helping them use what they’ve learned in real-life settings.
- Cost-effective support: Therapy assistant services can be more affordable than working with a therapist directly, especially if your child needs frequent support.
How does it work?
STEP 1
Referral:
Upon receiving a referral, our Therapy Assistant Team Leads match your child with a suitable Therapy Assistant based on your needs and preferences.
STEP 2
Assignment:
Once a Therapy Assistant is assigned, we facilitate an introduction between you, your child, and your regular treating therapist at Emble. This initial meeting allows you and your child to become acquainted with the Therapy Assistant and observe their participation in a therapy session.
STEP 3
Program Development:
Following the introduction, the regular treating therapist devises a tailored program for the Therapy Assistant to implement. This program outlines specific goals, strategies, motivators, and example activities to guide the therapy sessions.
STEP 4
Training and Supervision:
Each Therapy Assistant undergoes comprehensive training and receives weekly supervision from our Therapy Assistant Team Leaders. This ongoing support ensures that they deliver optimal care and support to your child.
STEP 5
Integration:
As valued members of our team, our Therapy Assistants have access to continuous training, support, and supervision. This integrated approach ensures collaboration between Therapy Assistants, Therapists, and other important people to your child’s learning and development, ultimately strengthening the child’s therapy journey.
